All of us need to draw away from our busy lives from time to time. We seek a place where we can think about the meaning of life and what really matters to us. We long for an environment that connects us with the Mystery we call God, the ground of our being. We have the spiritual resources to help you get in touch with your deepest self, and with the God you encounter there. We’re ready to assist businesses, individuals, families and groups with a variety of offerings and schedules. We’re here to help.

A Personal Retreat is a time away in a quiet place for rest, reflection and renewal. A personal retreat may be for a day, overnight or longer. A comfortable guest room with a private bath is provided. One is free to spend time as one wishes—in solitude or with others at community prayer and meals. A person may walk our spacious grounds, browse our ecumenical library, and meet with a spiritual guide.
An Hermitage Retreat is a week-long or longer solitary retreat spent in an hermitage in either Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas or Kansas: contact us for a location near you. This private one room unit is situated on the grounds of the Retreat Center; or one may stay at our guest house. Recently remodeled, it includes a sitting area, desk, bathroom with shower, and an outdoor deck.
Corporate and Business Offerings can be custom tailored to the needs of your particular group. We have facilities in five states and a variety of options and ideas designed to promote rejuvenation, team-building, and a more relaxed, productive corporate atmosphere. As an ecumenical ministry, clergy of various Christian denominations are available to meet the needs of any business or group.

There are no ‘shoulds’ on a personal retreat; only gentle expectations of the moment. Keep it simple by asking yourself, ‘What question do I want answered during this time?’ This could be a question like, ‘How can I be nicer to myself?’ or a larger question like, ‘Should I stay in this relationship?’
Once you are comfortable with your quest, the journey becomes the next step.
Bring some things to facilitate your inner journey—a journal, some paper and drawing pencils, a favorite music selection, a book. It’s a good idea to have a loose structure, maybe one activity per day, to alleviate feeling adrift. Stay open to your experiences during your time away. Don’t create a specific itinerary to follow unless you are willing to change it if you feel the desire. The only hard and fast rule is no guilt! Don’t feel guilty about leaving your responsibilities behind for a few days. Just relax and enjoy the time alone, in your room or in nature. Begin your inward journey with some small ceremony—put your favorite afghan across you knees, play your favorite calming music, close your eyes and look to your heart. Ask yourself, ‘What do I want fro this retreat?’ Then go and do it! Read a book, take a nap, go to prayer, walk in the prairies, sit on a hill and gaze over the rich farmlands. Listen with the ear of your heart and don’t expect any earthshaking revelations. Be open, find your center, and you will return to reality with more balance and sensitivity. When you leave, take something home with you to hold on to until you return—a ritual, a stone, a leaf—as a reminder of where your center resides. |
